Jurgen Ingels - Chairman at Startups.be

Jurgen is one of the founding and managing partners of B-Hive (formerly Eggsplore), founder and former CFO Clear2Pay and founder of Smartfin Capital. He’s also board member of NG Data, Itineris, Trendminer, Guardsquare, Projective, Materialise (NASDAQ : MTLS) and Willemen Groep. Jurgen holds a Master’s degree in Political and Social Sciences and an MBA from the University of Antwerp.
Alain De Taeye, former CEO of unicorn Tele Atlas

Alain is trailblazer in the world of digital map making. He was the first to create a digital map on a PC in the early 80s, the first to use mobile mapping vans to capture an accurate picture of the real road network and the first to incorporate crowd sourced data to improve map quality. Alain is the original digital map maker. He headed up Tele Atlas, the global map making company, from 1990 until it was acquired by TomTom in 2008.

Alain’s approach to map making paved the way for the modern, digital maps we have today. He laid the foundation for new, innovative ways to create real-time maps capable of powering the most demanding applications such as autonomous driving in the future.

Alain graduated as an engineer-architect from the University of Gent.
Wim De Waele - CEO at B-Hive

Wim just launched B-Hive (formerly Eggsplore). B-Hive is a collaborative innovation platform connecting the dots in digital finance which is supported by all major financial players in Belgium.

Before B-Hive, Wim was CEO of iMinds for over 10 years. iMinds was awarded the second place in UBI Global’s ranking of Top University Business Accelerators as  Flanders leading market-driven digital research and incubation organisation. iMinds has now merged into imec, creating a unique digital research organisation in Belgium.
He is member of the Connect Advisory Forum, the European advisory group to DG CONNECT of the European Commission.  

He is also on the board of several start-ups. Wim lives in his town of birth, Ghent, where he obtained his master degrees in Economic Sciences and Computer Sciences at the University of Ghent in 1987, and to which he returned after having worked in Germany and the United States.
Peter Vanbekbergen - partner at imec.xpand

Imec.xpand is a stage agnostic venture capital fund with a game-changing approach to turn hardware driven nanotechnology innovation into successful global companies. Imec.xpand will support these ventures operationally and financially from seed to exit and give them access to the unique imec knowledge, network and infrastructure.

Peter Vanbekbergen participated in one imec startup (Coware),  co-founded another imec startup (M4S) and worked on a broad range of hardware and software technologies. His entrepreneurial attitude was shaped by working and living in Silicon Valley. Since March 2017 Peter is partner in the imec.xpand fund.

Wouter Desmet - Partner at EY

Wouter is leading the EY Subsidia Grants and Incentives service line and EYnovation programme which offers start-ups and scale-ups help with all the strategic, legal and financial issues. Wouter is internal and external coach of innovation and startup projects and was involved in more than 300 projects with companies and research institutions from various sectors, both in a national and international context

He is founder of Subsideaal, a consultancy company specialized in Grants and Incentives for R&D-projects, which merged with EY Subsidia, now market leader in subsidy consultancy. He was founder and director of Dag1, a non-profit organization focusing on start-ups.

Bruno Vandegehuchte, Director Gent BC & founder “Level Up”

Before connecting the Gent BC network of local tech players, Bruno focused on international business development for a top tier legal firm, two international music festival & was advisor in different parliaments (national & European). Gent BC launched Flanders’ leading investor event “Level Up” in 2016 enabling access between #betech and “deep pocket” VC community in saas, big data, mobile, IOT & e-commerce.

Bruno leads Gent BC, a joint venture set up by Ghent University, the City of Ghent and the Development Agency East Flanders. As a matchmaker between the knowledge institutions and the industry, Gent BC puts Ghent on the map as an important hub of technology & technological entrepreneurship.
Frank Maene - founder & managing partner at Volta Ventures 

The fund provides venture capital and hands-on support to seed & early stage, internet & software companies in the Benelux.
The fund’s team, with active support from some 30 business angels, expects to make a substantial impact on every company it invests in by working with the founders and management to identify new markets and customers, hire senior talent, provide ongoing guidance, arrange further financing rounds and exploring strategic options.

Frank currently sits on the board of Awingu, BitSensor, Flavr, VAMP and Sentiance. Previously he sat on the board of Amplidata (Western Digital), Ciceksepti, Engagor (Clarabridge), Qlayer (SUN) and DataCenterTechnologies (Symantec).
Matthias Vandepitte - Partner at Fortino Capital

Matthias joined Fortino Capital in 2016 and focuses on software and internet investments (series A and beyond) and growth equity investments in technology companies and classic companies undergoing a digital transformation.

At Fortino Capital he is involved with Teamleader, Bloomon, Real Impact Analytics, Trendminer and Slickss. 

Matthias has an industrial background in oil & gas and brings PE/VC experience from Gimv.

Matthias graduated as an engineer from the KULeuven and holds an MBA from London Business School.
Karen Boers - co-founder and Managing Director at Startups.be 

Uniting hundreds of startups with all the incubators, accelerators, investors and public actors in the local ecosystem, Startups.be operates as a one-stop-shop and matchmaker at national and international level. The impact of the Belgian Startup Manifesto underlines the importance and potential of providing entrepreneurs with a single and strong voice towards policy makers and key decision makers, which is why she is now also shouldering the European Startup Network, to help create a truly pan-European bottom-up startup ecosystem.
Roald Sieberath - Venture Partner at LeanSquare

As a tech entrepreneur, Roald has been through the full startup cycle in a few domains, from mobile messaging (Winbox, $5M raised in 2000, failed) to big data (co-founder of Swan Insights, successfully sold in 2016).

He loves coaching, and has been involved in many startup initiatives in Wallonia, from MIC Boostcamp, to Nest’up, to teaching entrepreneurship at UCL.

Roald is trained as an engineer and MBA, having studied at Louvain, Solvay & Stanford.
